Not only has HBO embraced diversity for directing with its HBOAccess Directing Fellowship, but today they launched the HBOAccess Writing Fellowship. HBO seeks emerging writers from diverse backgrounds… What is HBO’s definition of diversity?
For the purposes of the HBOACCESS program, diversity is defined as those who identify as any of the following:
- Asian Pacific American
- Sub-Continent Asian American
- African American
- Hispanic American
- Native American
- Middle Eastern
- Women from all backgrounds
Those applicants chosen to participate, attend master classes at HBO’s Santa Monica campus for one week. Master classes will focus on the following:
- Story Development
- Pitching Ideas
- Pitching Projects
- Securing an Agent
- Networking
After the master classes, each participant will move on to an eight-month writing phase of the program where the partipant will be paired with an HBO development exec and be guided through HBO’s script development process. Upon the program’s conclusion, HBO holds both a reception and staged reading for industry professionals where the writers/participants are introduced to the entertainment industry.
